MemorialShirley Jean Whorton was born at 9:00 AM on December 21st, 1936 in Kingston, Arkansas. She was the eighth of nine children of Oscar and Stella Whorton. After multiple moves, the family settled in Roseburg, where Shirley met the love of her life, Arnold, at age 16. They married on the 27th of June, 1953. They quickly built a family with Rodney born in 1954, Peggy in 1955, Greg in 1956 and Kathy in 1958.

Shirley was devoted to her Lord, her husband and her children. Very active in her church, the Church of Christ in Roseburg, Oregon, she contributed greatly to the children of the church by helping with Vacation Bible School every summer. In later years, Shirley worked in the cafeterias of Roseburg and Green schools. She and Arnold also traveled with the Sojourners to help with construction and repair of church buildings and youth camps. She was dedicated to her family and friends and graced everyone she knew with a kind heart, delightful humor, good will and wonderful food.

Shirley is survived by Arnold, her husband of 60 years, her four children, Rod Weston, Peggy Kersey, Greg Weston, Kathy Makinson and siblings Faye Ryan of Nipomo, CA, Rex Whorton of Stockton, CA, Rita Heath of Roseburg, OR, Bud Whorton of Roseburg, OR, Joyce Henriksen of Clinton, WI, Dorothy Schuchardt of Eugene, OR and Billye Whorton of Roseburg, OR, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as spouses of children and grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
